Library’s Spring Book Fair, Volunteers Needed (May 15-19)

Library News: Spring Book Fair and Volunteer Request

The Brentwood Library Spring Book Fair will take place May 15 – 19.
Come to the Book Fair!
By shopping for books at our fall and spring Scholastic Book Fairs, you can make your child’s library grow while helping to make Brentwood’s library even better.

Here’s How the Book Fair works:
On Monday or Tuesday, each child will visit the Book Fair with the class and make a wish list of 2-3 books he or she would like to purchase. You will get the wish list with the price of the books your child is interested in. Look over the list and, if you approve, send your child to school with money to purchase the books you want to buy. We can accept cash, checks (made out to Brentwood Elementary) or credit cards.

Book Fair Hours:
• Monday May 15, 7:30 am – 7:00 pm (open late!)
• Tuesday May 16, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm (open early)
• Wednesday May 17, 7:30 am – 3:30 pm
• Thursday May 18, 7:00am – 3:30 pm (open early)
• Friday May 19, 7:30, am – 1:00 pm

Visit the our Scholastic Home Page at

Build Our Library’s Magazine Collection

Mrs. Slaten has chosen some amazing magazines to have in our library for the 2017/18 school year! Does your child like nature, science, cooking, social studies, history, sports, coding, computers, literature, games, puzzles, jokes?

There is something for almost every interest, but we need your help for these great magazines to make it to our shelves. Subscriptions will start in August, and sponsors will be recognized on the display copy each month. Back issues will go into circulation, so students can check issues out to take home.

Are you ready to become a sponsor? Just follow these easy steps:

  1. Grab the magazine that you would like to sponsor off of the library bulletin board.
  2. Subscription details are on the back of the magazine. Fill out your family name(s) and contact information. Write a check to Brentwood Elementary School. Send your magazine and check to Kate Slaten, Brentwood Librarian.
  3. Pat yourself on the back for helping to expand our literacy resources!

Brentwood Top User of MyOn Online Library

Brentwood was listed one of the top 25 schools in the district for MyOn usage. This is such a great
resource for having access to books at all times. Thanks for encouraging your children to use it at home!

How to access: To access books, log in to the MyOn site, select Brentwood Elementary School Austin, TX. The user name is your child’s id # with an “s” in front. The password is aisd.

More information: Since the adoption of the myON personalized literacy platform, students in AISD have finished 185,647 books and have spent 42,745 hours reading! Each week, the number of students reading on myON is increasing with more than 16,000 books read over spring break. We know myOn is only one of the resources that students have for reading and that the reports do not represent all the great reading that students are doing in physical and digital texts. All students; however, should have access to their accounts and the option to read on myON as it provides thousands of published book options as well as assisted reading tools.
