How does Brentwood keep students safe and how can I help?

All exterior doors will remain locked at all times during the school day, including doors that lead to the playground areas.

All gates to the Brentwood grounds are locked at all times.

Visitors & Volunteers

Visitors and volunteers are always welcome at Brentwood!

Family and community members can help us keep our campuses safe. To keep our kids safe, ALL Visitors and Volunteers must sign in at every visit. Be prepared to provide photo ID and wear a badge while on campus.

Please enter from the main front doors (Yates side) by pressing the door buzzer/office intercom button on the right side wall by the front doors. All visitors MUST sign in at the front office upon arrival AND sign out at the front office when leaving.

In addition to signing in, volunteers will need register with Austin Partners In Education to undergo a background check.

Things you SHOULD NOT do:

  • DO NOT allow other visitors to piggyback into the campus buildings.
  • DO NOT encourage or ask students, teachers, or staff to open doors.
  • DO NOT prop open doors behind you.

Things you SHOULD do:

  • DO wear your Visitor ID when on campus.
  • DO report any suspicious activity you see on campus.
  • DO report anyone you see on campus without an AISD or visitor badge.
  • DO talk to your children about personal safety and security.

Safety Drills

Brentwood holds five different types of emergency drills throughout the year. Learn more about Emergency Management here.

Evacuation Drill 

  • Evacuate is called when there is a need to move students from one location to another, usually outside.
  • We will do these drills once a month.

Lockdown

  • Lockdown is called when there is a threat or hazard inside the school.
  • All students, staff, and visitors are in a locked room or classroom.
  • Remain out of sight and silent in rooms.
  • We will do this drill once in the first semester and once in the second semester.

Lockout

  • Lockout is called when there is a threat or hazard outside the school building.
  • Everyone is brought indoors and outside doors are locked.
  • Classrooms and school is business as usual with an awareness of the situation.
  • We will do this drill once in the first semester and once in the second semester.

Hold

  • A situation that requires the students to remain in their classrooms.
  • There is something going on in a hallway that we need to keep it clear whether an altercation or medical emergency.
  • Business as usual in the classrooms
  • We will do this drill once in the first semester and once in the second semester.

Shelter

  • Shelter is called when specific protective actions are needed based on a threat or hazard.
  • These could be tornados, floods, earthquakes, or hazardous materials.
  • Students, staff, and visitors are led to a designated location in the building.
  • We will do this drill once in the first semester and once in the second semester.
